The Megageomorphology of the Radar Rivers of the Eastern Sahara

چکیده

The Eastern Sahara (Fig. i) is devoid of surface drainage -this unusual characteristic distinguishes its morphology from that of most other desert regions where running water dominates landscape development (Peel, 1939). Cyclic aridity, which is responsible for the obscuring eolian blankets and wind-erosion effects, had set in by the Pliocene-Pleistocene transition, about 2 million years ago (Williams, 1982). SlR-A/B reveals, however, that the "bull's-eye" of aridity in North Africa underwent a long prior history of erosion by southwestward-trending Tertiary streams (McCauley et al., 1986; Schaber et al., 1986).

K&C Science Report – Phase 1

Using JERS-1 and PALSAR radar images provided by JAXA, we built regional and continental scale mosaics of Sahara that allowed to discover major geological features. The unique capability of L-band SAR to map subsurface structures in arid areas revealed several impact craters and paleo-rivers in

A report of biodiversity and abundance of freshwater mollusks in eastern rivers of Tehran Province

Molluscs are among the most important group of faunistic diversity in aquatic habitats. In this paper, abundance, species diversity and some of the morphological traits such as body length and whorl numbers of the mollusks found in three rivers, Hablehrood, Jajrood and Lar in east Tehran, through three seasons of autumn, spring and summer were studied. Totally five species in three families wer...

Detecting Surface Waters Using Data Fusion of Optical and Radar Remote Sensing Sensor

Identification and monitoring of surface water using remote sensing have become very important in recent decades due to its importance in human needs and political decisions. Therefore, surface water has been studied using remote sensing systems and Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 sensors in this study. In this paper, two data fusion approaches and decision fusion improve the accuracy of surface wate...

Spatial Analysis and Monitoring of Slope Stability using Persistent Scatterer Tecnique of Sentinel 1 Radar Images, Case Study: Sarcheshmeh Copper Mine

Based on the correlation diagram between the master and slave images (Fig. 5), the pair of appropriate images in terms of the shortest spatial and temporal lines is identified to produce the interferogram. As shown in Fig. 5, the maximum vertical baseline is obtained between -400 and -400. The obtained interferograms indicate the cumulative phase of the study area, which fluctuates between zero...

Reconstruction of the Paleohydrology in Desert Areas Using Sar and Digital Topography Data

Arid zones have been affected during the quaternary by a large hydrological and climate variability. This change of processes has shaped the landscape leaving the signature of former paleodrainage and sedimentological features. Using the radar SAR images matched with the detailed topography, obtained from the SRTM (Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) data and ERS interferometry, it is possible to...
